As the cost of fuel continues to dominate the transport and logistics sector, it comes as no surprise that every business connected to the industry is exploring ways of reducing fuel costs. With so much at stake however, the risk of downtime and entry costs to fuel saving systems means that only the most tried and tested methods will be successful.

Fortunately, significant advances have now been made that are starting to attract the very biggest names in the industry, and where companies such as Aldi have now become involved, others are sure to follow.

Businesses in the Midlands were given the ideal opportunity to see at first hand how far LPG dual fuel technology has advanced last week thanks to an Open Day held at the British Racing Drivers Club, Silverstone, by Bristol based diesel replacement technology specialist Diesel Dynamics.

The Open Day targeted businesses within the local area and gave customers the opportunity to view one of the converted Aldi tractor units and see for themselves the feedback on the LPG dual fuel technology. As well as being able to meet the Diesel Dynamics team, visitors were supported by senior figures from GSPK Multifuel Technology (GSPK MT), BP and a dealer for a major manufacturer.

Managing Director of Diesel Dynamics, Miles Kirke was delighted with the event on top of the recent successes of the company, as he explains; “It has been a real achievement for us to sign up a leading logistics professional like Aldi, who have committed to a rolling installation programme following a 3 vehicle 3 month trial at their Faverdale RDC.

Their confidence in the system gives other customers the confidence to trial it, and once customers have seen for themselves how much they can save, normally around 15%, they realise it really does make sound financial sense.”

Alex Turner, transport manager for Aldi Stores GMBH, said of their recent trial; “We are delighted with our test results. All new Aldi trucks will now be converted by Diesel Dynamics before delivery to us. We have also asked Diesel Dynamics to start converting our existing fleet immediately.”

Jason Clark, B2B major accounts manager specialising in LPG for BP, commented on how the market’s growth continues. “We are pleased that companies such as Diesel Dynamics and GSPK Multifuel Technology are bringing credibility and professionalism to the market which will help inspire confidence and in turn stimulate growth.”

“At BP we are also committed to adding value to the LPG market, and as such are introducing innovative and faster delivery and re-fuelling systems for our customers.”

These comments were welcomed by GSPK Multifuel Technology managing director David Abbott who has been working hard on ensuring best practice is at the heart of his company’s system, as he responds; “Over the past twelve months we and our distributors have been working through every aspect of our service to ensure that what we offer ticks every box for our customers.

“We fully realise how important their business is to them, and the level of take up of our LPG dual fuel system that we are now starting to see demonstrates that we are moving in the right direction.”

Miles Kirke added; “Visitors to the show were well established, mainstream transport professionals. They were not early adopters and certainly not guinea pigs. They have looked at the history, the figures and the quality of companies that have taken up the technology and have said, “Yes thank you, I would like to reduce my fuel bills by 10 – 20%.” The evidence is overwhelming; this technology works.”
