West Yorkshire councils have announced a new marketing strategy to get more young people to join the Building Surveying Apprenticeship scheme starting in the academic year of 2007.
The council has invested in the marketing campaign to promote the course to 15 – 19 year olds at open days and career fairs. This will include distributing fliers, PR, creating visually inviting display material, a short video about daily life on the job, mailing brochures to potential student and parents and an interactive website with the support of career advice centres like Connexions and Work About.
The team at the m1x have publicised this scheme with a prominent front page spread and double page feature within the RICS Building Control Journal.
After liaising closely with the editor of the publication, the team have provided materials and research, in depth articles and all the photography for the feature, which was placed in this key industry publication. The Journal is received by all members of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, therefore giving the scheme a greater coverage of the market.
Jan Ambrose, Editor of the RICS Building Control Journal, said “The m1x were a pleasure to work with and we are grateful for all their help. We look forward to developing the scheme along side them in the future."
Kirklees Metropolitan Council will execute the campaign commencing in July/August. This will encourage schools and colleges around the West Yorkshire area to encompass the basic skills required in the Building Surveying profession in the curriculum.
