Winder Electrical Powers Ahead With £2m Contract
One of the UK’s leading power transformer manufacturers, Leeds-based Winder Electrical has won an order worth over £2m to supply 30 oil cooled power and cast resin distribution transformers to Fiddlers ferry and Ferrybridge power stations. The installation will significantly reduce sulphur emissions from the plants. Winder Electrical was the only UK company asked to tender for the contract, which subsequently saw it beat competitors from around Europe to secure the deal.
This win forms part of Lentjes GmbH’s €300m contract to cover the supply and services to fit flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) plants at the Fiddler’s Ferry and Ferrybridge power stations. Both stations are owned by Scottish & Southern Energy, the largest generator of electricity from renewable sources in the UK and also the second largest generator of electricity in the UK.
The installation of such FGD plants, which reduce the amount of sulphur dioxide released into the atmosphere, will allow SSE an extended operation of these power stations, complying with the European Large Plant Combustion Directive (LPCD). In line with the requirements of the LPCD, the FGD plants will be designed to remove 94% of the incoming sulphur load. Both FGD systems are due to be commissioned in 2008.
Commenting on this exciting new contract, Andy Pinkney, Operations Director at Winder Electrical said; “The whole team at Winder worked hard to make this contract win as easy as possible for Lentjes, by simply providing the fastest and best service and support available. With a number of recent FGD contract wins under our belt, we are also building a strong case as one of the leading providers of environmentally friendly power solutions.”
Marita Kroelling, procurement manager at Lentjes, added; “We are very pleased to be working with Winder Electrical. We have found them to be competitive and genuinely committed to excellence, which sits perfectly with our own culture.”
